“In-sight”
(A perception of the future)
I am personally trying to keep this thought in my
head for the Tulsa Bird Dog Club with the hope that
we will all work together toward a solution. I do not
believe that we can afford to purchase our current
trial grounds based upon the appraised value of the
property. On the other hand I do not believe that the
property will be sold in the immediate future. We
will be trying to work out a lease with the owners
for 2009 to give us time to locate a possible site
that the club can afford to purchase. It is not a
time for us to breathe a sigh of relief but to keep
on making plans to purchase a piece of property for a
permanent home. I believe that the interest in the
club is bigger and better than ever. I was encouraged
with the enthusiasm shown by everyone at the last
monthly meeting. Some great ideas were offered by
many individuals thinking of how we can accomplish
our goal. I want us to have a place that we can call
our own, not only for us but for future bird dog
enthusiasts. Any ideas for possible sites available
for purchase would be helpful and appreciated. With
the membership working together, our goal will be
accomplished.
I would like to clarify any misconceptions that
anyone may have about the amount of money that is
made from the field trials. 15 braces @ $60.00 =
$900.00. Subtract from that fees for judges, rentals
for the four wheelers and payment for birds. Add a
little for food, OH yeah and a little more for
prizes. Are you ready, said trial generates a modest
addition to the treasury just under $200.00. Now mind
you, this is just the gun dog side but I think you
get the idea. Most of the money is from our sponsors
that either provide us dog food for an ad in the
Covey Rise or pay us $$$$ for an ad. A few of the
members work very hard to get people to place ads in
our newsletter. PLEASE be thinking of some new
sponsors. I hope to have all of the current ones back
again next year. The New Year for ads starts in
August. We would like to have new sponsor’s ads by
the middle of July.
Nominations for your new officers will be held at his
month’s meeting on April 22, 2008 and in May we will
be voting for the new officers, let’s have a big
turn-out for both meetings.
The Sunday clay shoots have started up again for the
summer, so come on out and join in the fun. Thanks
guys for signing up to be Range Masters in charge of
the shoots each week. We greatly appreciate it. Roy
has reserved Shelter #3 at Mohawk Park for our Annual
Picnic slated for Saturday May 17th,
2008.
Spring trials are over and some new members have made
things very interesting. Check the standing and you
will see what I mean. Thanks go out to Jack Davis for
supplying the food for the last trial and also to
Keith Lindsay (the clubs chef) for preparing a great
feast.
When working a new (hunting buddy) pup, it’s always a
good idea to first let them burn off excess energy a
few minutes before trying to teach them anything.
