Trial Check List
It was brought up in the Covey Rise and at the February
27th 2007 meeting that we should brake up the Gun Dog
Trials into two classifications for dogs that are too old
for the puppy class. This was discussed in detail at the
meeting and brought to a vote. The vote was passed and now
we have two classifications for the Gun Dog Trial. There
will be a new classification called the Novice Class. The
class that will determine Gun Dog of the Year will be the
Open Class.
The Novice class will be run with the same rules as the
Open Class. The field will be split in two parts running
north and south. The Novice Class will run along the east
fence and the Open Class will run on the west portion of
the property which includes the rolling hills down to the
west property line.
A member may sign up in the Open Class by choice. There are
no restrictions to running a dog in the Open Class. The
Novice Class will have restrictions. If a dog has ever
placed in the trials prior to the March 24th Trial this
month, the dog may not be run in the Novice Class. Placed
being defined as 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th or 6th.
A gun dog will have limitations on how long it can run in
the Novice Class. Points for placing in the Novice Class
will be 3 points for a 1st Place finish. 2 Points for a 2nd
Place finish and 1 point for a 3rd Place finish. Once a Gun
Dog has accumulated 7 points in the Novice Class, they are
automatically bumped up to the Open Class from that point
forward.
The Points awarded for the novice placements will not count
toward the Championship Team or Dog of the Year, but will
count toward the Handler of the Year!!!
